Seven hidden wonders

During summer could be difficult to find a bit of peace and quiet on the beaches of Ibiza. This is when driving those extra couple of kilometres to find the more secluded beaches and coves is the better option. Here we will recommend you some of the prettiest and most relaxing beaches of the island.

1.Cala Llentrisca You can find this tiny, rocky cove some 3 km from Es Cubells. It’s one of the most tranquil in the area. Its crystal clear waters are perfect for swimming or snorkelling.

2.Cala Olivera Cala Olivera and Cala Llonga are less than 4 km apart. Its location just past the Roca Llisa neighbourhood, and the dodgy walk getting down to it, makes this cove one of the less popular among the bathers in the region. However it has definitely seen an increase in followers in recent years. It’s got a rocky part for those seeking total tranquillity and a small sandy area with the odd hammocks dotted around.

3.Cala d’ Albarca Also known as “cala Aubarca” by locals, it offers visitors one of the best bathing experiences in the north of the island. It’s found only a few short kilometres from San Mateu, it’s earned the title of “Area of Special Natural Interest” offering a landscape typical of the north of the island: dense pine forests, and imposing sea-facing cliffs. Cala d’Abarca is one of the most virgin coves on the islands and is often enjoyable in complete solidarity.

4.Cala d’en Serra Found some 9 kilometres from Sant Joan, and located very close to Portinax, Cala d’en Serra is a tiny cove found in the midst of totally unspoilt natural surroundings, filling visitors lungs with pure Mediterranean sea air. The area boasts a beach bar and a few changing cabins but little else. When bathing its recommended you wear some hard-soled wet shoes to avoid hurting yourself on rocks or sea urchins, also snorkelling gear is a definite for the curious nature lovers.

5.Cala XarracaDepending on the time of year you can find Cala Xarraca more or less empty, although in recent years it has grown in popularity amongst tourists and locals alike. Cala Xarraca is another must see for snorkelling enthusiasts, as this small enclave offers a true paradise in which to do it.

6.S’Estanyol One of the closest “peaceful getaways” to the city of Ibiza (only 4 kilometers). An uncomfortable treck by land is what prevents S’Estanyol from filling up with visitors. It has both a sandy and rocky area to throw down the towel and a neat little row of changing cabins, where we can seat ourselves if looking for complete silence. S’Estanyol also hosts a small beach bar where you can recoup and get your energy back.

7.Cala Codolar Of all the coves mentioned on this list, Codolar cove (some 7 kilometers from San Josep) is perhaps that which gets the most attention from bathers. In spite of this it’s strange to see it thronged with people, and it always offers a relaxing and friendly atmosphere. Days with little wind offer perfect water conditions to see the underwater world with or without goggles. This cove also has a small beach bar and some sun loungers are available to rent.
