Ibiza in the winter: The almond tree route
In the winter, discover a whiter Ibiza. An Ibiza that starts blooming in January across the sunniest valleys on the island. Depending on how rainy, cold or warm the previous months have been, the almond trees in Ibiza will bloom a few weeks sooner or later, so this natural spectacle could take place in January or February. Usually, the chances of seeing the trees in full bloom increase mid-January or early February.
the almond tree route in ibiza
Hostal La Torre is perfectly located to go out and explore the almond trees in bloom, as it is only 10Km away from Pla de Santa Agnès de Corona, the most visited valley during those months. You will love the road that leads to the valley from your boutique hotel, as well as the vegetable and potato omelette made at Can Cosmi, next to Sant Agnès church. This bar is a typical example of the traditional cheap seafood bars that you find by the roads in Ibiza.
You can drive around the valley by the road that starts by Can Cosmi, but we recommend you park your car and enjoy a peaceful stroll, as the road is narrow and there are a few two-way stretches that can be quite tricky. If you don’t want to walk the whole way, walk towards the viewpoint next to the Las Puertas del Cielo restaurant: it’s only two kilometres but you will discover stunning views of the valley in bloom and, at the end, an expansive view of the sea.
The almond trees in west Ibiza
But Pla de Santa Agnès de Corona is not the only valley where the almond trees flower. You can in fact find them all over the island, but in this case, the route heads towards the south, down the western side of the island. From Santa Agnès we take the Sant Antoni road to the bay and then towards Cala Bassa. The road that leads there goes through valleys dotted by white and pinkish flowers, like the one that links Sant Josep to Sa Caleta and Es Cubells. Depending on the time you choose to take this route through the almond trees in the southern part of Ibiza, you can stop to have lunch or a coffee at the Restaurante Es Cubells, at the Sa Caleta beach bar or at the Yemanjá beach club.
stroll under a full moon
Discover the almond tree route of Santa Agnès under a full moon: The Town Council of Sant Antoni organizes a guided night walk of the valley every year. This year, the full moon will be on 31st January, so this walk will be around that date.
