Ibiza on a plate
Ibiza has become famous worldwide for its beautiful beaches, its lively atmosphere and its inimitable clubbing scene. But it’s also the ideal destination for travellers for whom the ideal trip also involves discovering the specific flavours of each region. Ibiza’s cuisine is based on produce from the land and the sea and offers delicious specialities that you mustn’t miss during your holidays on the island. If you’d like to go back home looking like the cat that got the cream, take note of our suggestions below that include the most representative dishes of Ibiza’s cuisine. Bon appetit!
Bullit de peix
This fish dish is made with monkfish, scorpion fish, John Dory and grouper. First they serve the fish, which is usually cooked with potatoes and then they serve a simple but flavourful rice dish cooked in fish stock (arroz a banda) and served with a few pieces of cuttlefish. You cannot leave Ibiza without trying it! We recommend the one made at Es Ventall, a few minutes’ drive from Hostal La Torre. Also, at this restaurant, you will find original dishes of modern Ibizan cuisine.
Sofrit Pagés
This delicious traditional winter dish is made with chicken and lamb, vegetables, potatoes, garlic and the two most typical sausages on the island: sobrassada and botifarró. Try it at Cas Pagès, a restaurant devoted to traditional recipes that you will find on your routes across the eastern part of Ibiza.
Guisat de peix
Scrumptious fish stew made with peppers, tomatoes, onion and ground almonds, parsley and garlic.Frita de Pulpo
Another fish speciality from Ibiza that you can order at the traditional restaurants on the island. It is made with octopus, potatoes, peppers, onions and garlic. A flavourful dish that you must try. We recommend the one served at the traditional restaurant of Es Rebost de Can Prats, in the village of Sant Antoni. And if you’d like to taste octopus with exotic flavours, we suggest you go to the Hostal La Torre restaurant.
And many other specialities
Other traditional dishes served at many beach bars and restaurants in Ibiza are the payesa salad, the frita de porc (fried pork), the frita de calamar (squid) and the rice with meat (arroz de matanzas) that is usually served in the winter and, of course, grilled fish. We mustn’t forget their two iconic desserts: the flaó, which is a luscious cheese and mint cake and the greixonera, which is like a flan.
